PPS President Welcome Letter

Welcome to the Pulmonary Pathology Society!

The PPS is dedicated to the study and understanding of thoracic pathology through educational resources and networking provided via the website, companion meetings at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and its own biennial meeting. Our membership has international scope and we actively support future pulmonary pathologists through awards for meeting travel and trainee presentations.

As the President of the Society for 2022-2024, I will support and continue this mission, and with Dr. Sholl as Vice-President, Dr. Attanoos as Treasurer and Dr. Roden as Secretary, we have a great team to provide the quality of materials to our valued members.

Many thanks to Dr. Dacic as the outgoing president and to the ongoing work of our outstanding webmaster, Donald Guinee.

The 2022 12th biennial meeting in Cork Ireland was a great success and having an in-person meeting was an opportunity for seeing colleagues and friends and hearing some of the best talks in thoracic pathology.  The program committee and its chair Wendy Cooper, along with our local PPS member Louise Burke made sure that the meeting was a wonderful experience for all attendees.  In addition, with the work of the Awards committee, PPS awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award to Kevin Leslie, MD. In addition, a Legacy of Excellence Award was granted to Samuel Yousem, MD.

We look forward to the 2024 meeting which will be held in New York City, and you will be hearing more about the meeting, with a save the date and preliminary program. Dr. Boland Froemming is the new chair of the program committee and will be working with the committee to bring together a superb slate of speakers at our meetings.

Pulmonary pathology is at the forefront of innovation in the classification of neoplastic disease and in non-neoplastic disease underscores the need for pathologists as consultants in multidisciplinary teams.

The PPS remains a premiere educational resource. Look to the website for features like the case of the month, links to the Mayo Clinic journal club and, of course, pulmonary pathology career opportunities.

Thank you for being a member!
